Working with Offenders
Take a look at this short film from the BBC, focussing upon high reoffending rates in the North-East of England and highlighting the work of Northern Learning Trust's - Reaching Out Project and its work with ex-offenders. Reaching Out works with ex-offenders who wish to settle/ resettle in the Northumbria policing area. The project matches them with volunteer mentors who provide support, advice, information and guidance. Mentors are volunteers that ex-offenders can trust and talk openly with, in the knowledge that they will be treated with respect and dignity and in a non-judgemental manner. The film highlights the work Reaching Out does in supporting ex-offenders John and Steven and the role played by project co-ordinator Graeme and volunteer mentor Sophie. The film also looks at some of the wider issues regarding re-offending.
